I quite like photography as well as seeing connections in things. So this Capture the Colour contest is right up my alley. This is my entry to the contest. The point of the meme is to create a post with 5 pictures each highlighting one of the five colors: blue, white, yellow, green and red. I had the Lucky Charms jingle stuck in my head through most of writing this, but that is likely just a sign I watched too much TV as a kid.
Thanks to Erik from On My Feet Or In My Mind, Jennifer of Jdomb’s Travels and Annabel of Get in the Hot Spot for their nominations.
Blue – Santorini

I like doors. This one in Santorini is so iconic to the Greek Islands to me. Yes, even more so than the more known blue domes. The blue matches both the sky and the sea while the while the white reflects the heat. I found this peaceful perfect blue in Oia on a sunny day.

Green – Wanaka

Green is the color of life and growth. This little guy was watching his little plants on the back side of a hostel we stayed at in Wanak, New Zealand. I like the green of the sink as well as the ingenuity to use it to plant. You can’t beat the built in water management. Although the hostel had a number of plants, we only noticed this one after we had enjoyed our beer from the local beerworks, which made him all the more entertaining. I had to go back to the room for the camera.

Yellow – Mykonos

I like postboxes for a similar reason as I like doors. They are mundane items of life that can take on an exotic feel in different places. I have started taking pictures of post boxes as I travel. This was one of my first in Mykonos, Greece. I remember walking around in the daylight after a night of going out and noticing the line of the white lines behind the glaring yellow postbox.

White – Pamukkale

Pamukkale was the wildcard of our honeymoon. It ended up being fascinating place. The cliff is covered in white calcite that looks like it should be slippery, but it isn’t. The glittering white flows down a long set of terraces you can walk down. It is a big day trip destination, which means most people don’t make it beyond the first few pools. That is a shame, beyond that the people thin out and you get views like this.

Red – London

London scream red for me. Despite the grayness of the weather and the buildings, all of the traditional British things are red in my mind. I love this double decker bus picture in front of the Cathedral. It was such a lucky shot taking with a crap point and shoot early in the morning. Focus effects are some of my favorites and this is similar.

What beautiful images! Love the red bus in London!
Thank. Yeah, I liked the blurry effect the most on that shot.
Ah Pamukkale. I’ve only ever been close to the New Zealand version, sadly now buried under a lake. Would love to visit that one day
Ahh right, the pink terraces. I remember reading stuff about them when we were in Rotorua. Pamukkale is worth seeing.
Love the blue door in Santorini.
Thanks. That is my favorite of the 5 too.
Great photos! I love the first two. That garden sink is adorable.
Thanks. The hostel had its own garden for a small amount of veggies and things, so he fit right in.
It’s funny how many people have used a London bus for red- I love London and seeing all these photos! I also especially like your white photo!
Ha. Well I had to decide between a bus and a phone booth and just picked.
I love that red bus shot as well. The cathedral is so beautiful and peaceful behind it. I have never heard of Pamukkale but it looks like an incredible place to visit, so I’m off now to research
Thanks. Even I keep discovering things in that bus shot. The peace of the Cathedral versus the frenetic motion of the bus is neat. Yay photo accidents.
Pamukkale is amazing. Well worth a night there, even if you have to go out of your way to do it.
Love love love the green basil!!! What a funny pic! But my fave is the blue of Santorini!!! Nice post my friend!
Thanks. The green one is my least favorite, but so many people like it.
The red bus is fab:) But I always go for the red pics!
Thanks. Red was kind of a hard one to pick out. I usually go for blue.
Love your white photo – beautiful!
Thanks. Have you been to Turkey? Pammukale might be a good place for you guys. It is just recovering from over-development and although not green, definitely natural and cool.
